John King
I work with a network of partners to build brands and help them grow. I specialize in working with companies and industries that are innovating to create progress and evolution. My strength is discovering and composing stories that sell.
I’ve built a career in communications that has included artificial intelligence, clean energy, government affairs, CPG, philanthropy, and positioning and scaling multiple successful VC-backed startups, including AI unicorn, SparkCognition.
Prior to my time at SparkCognition, I was a leader in Austin's clean energy sector, and helped put the city on the map as a global cleantech hub. For my efforts, I was honored to be recognized by The Business Journal’s Who’s Who in Energy, and as an Austin Under 40 Award Winner.
I have built, developed, and led high-performance marketing communications organizations (managing up to 30 people, plus agencies, contractors, and consultants) that successfully scaled valuation by 300x, drove eight figures of new pipeline annually, and contributed to 7500% increase in YoY sales growth.
My teams and I have earned top tier recognition from dozens of global awards such as CNBC’s Top 20 Disruptor of the Year, Wall Street Journal’s Top 25 Tech Companies to Watch (#9), CB Insights AI 100 list three years in a row, SXSW’s Hottest Startup (2X), TechFlash Titans, Nokia’s Global Open Innovation Challenge, Venture Beat, Inc, Forbes, Fox Business News, WSJ, and more. Most importantly, earning over 30% share of voice over his top four enterprise competitors.
I have been privileged to work with executive leadership at NASDAQ, Chicago Mercantile Exchange, London Stock Exchange, Boeing, Honeywell, Lenovo, Cisco, BP, March Capital, Temasek, the US Marines Corps, the United States Senate, Invenergy, Verizon, the US Department of Energy, and more.
I have also led the publication of the quarterly AI magazine, Cognitive Times, and the production of the annual AI conference, Time Machine, hosting thousands of attendees and showcasing industry leaders and groundbreaking technology.
Since SparkCognition, I have been helping to build, brand, fund, and launch multiple startups, such as Carabuena tequila; High Desert Cactus Vodka, an award winning vodka made from cactus; Pilot, a consumer tech booking platform for nightlife; and TALA, a company that is changing residential living with a membership-based flexible living offering.
As a former owner and operator of a Restore Hyperwellness, I am focused on how I can serve others through health and wellness. I’ve also tried to stay engaged and serve my community. I have held leadership positions at the Austin Young Chamber of Commerce, the Young Men’s Business League, and SXSW Eco. I really enjoy volunteering at Capital City Village.
I love working with values-driven, collaborative impact organizations who want to do big things, and I tend to be most helpful during growth and expansion.
